Firebreak was an internal communication and marketing project for NHS Digital. The idea behind Firebreak was individuals within the organisation could submit, pitch and present their ideas in an open forum event. Individuals had the opportunity to develop ideas and concepts prior to the event. The ideas were focused around existing NHS Digital projects, and how to make them better plus the opportunity to submit new blue sky ideas in digital healthcare and information. Or perhaps just submitting an idea or suggestion that would fix or make something that already existed better.
Ideas would be submit via a simple written card descriptor and stuck physically to a branded wall in the work place. Team members could then volunteer support to an idea they felt had a worth while cause and donated their time and skill set to that idea. A small team of people could then grow to help develop the idea. Staff had a two week window to donate time and effort to the project.
Ideas were then presented to the audience.
